Abstrakt

In the catalogue of the emigration policy goals the motif of the political enemy can be
visible in two aspects; as an adversary in the internal political rivalry between the historical
groups and as an external enemy - the Soviet Union and the communist ideology as a factor
connecting these groups within the anti-soviet concept of Polish politics. In time, since the
creation of the Committee for a Free Europe as an organisation coordinating the fight against
the communist ideology (also beyond Europe) and the implementation of emigration into the
liberation strategy, a new enemy has appeared - the Sanation, born in the political rivalry
from the years of the Second Polish Republic, reborn among the emigrants by the historical
ressentiment and the diplomatic game of the Brits, who intentionally, selectively picked the
historical parties as CFE partners, which resulted in a warped image of the political life in the
“Polish London” as a society subject to external influence.
The research aim of this paper in to explain the role of the political enemy motif in shaping
of the ideological profile of the political programme and political fight strategy both in the
context of emigration and the contemporary times (after 1989). The research interest includes
also the analysis of the evolutionary factors of the political thought under the influence of
the imaginary external enemy. These research questions lead to the next one, meaning if
the unification of the political parties and atrophy of the historical parties in defining the
ideological-political enemy reflects the authentic character change of the nationalist political
parties, and furthermore, how does going back to the historical events with the intent to
confirm the frame of mind block the process of modernising the political programme towards
solving the problems of the future? Due to the homogeneous nature of the source material,
the research aim has been primarily oriented towards the political thought history of the
emigrational National Party (Stronnictwo Narodowe).
